Paramedic Science Program
Accelerated Format This
is the highest level of provider in the emergency medical system for
pre-hospital care. The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose
primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical
and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system.
Paramedics possess the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide
patient care and transportation. Paramedics function as part of a
comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Paramedics perform
lifesaving interventions using advanced and equipment typically found on
an ambulance.
Pelham
Training’s Paramedic Science Program is accredited through the
Commission for the Accreditation of Allied Health and Education Programs
(CAAHEP).
Pelham Training
offers the Paramedic Science Program in a standard format and in an
accelerated format.
The Paramedic Science program
teaches the paramedic candidate advanced patient assessment techniques
and lifesaving invasive procedures in accordance with the National
Registry, including:

Prerequisites
-
Applicants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at
the commencement of the course

Applicants must have a high school diploma or general
education diploma (G.E.D.).

All Standard Format applicants
must have documented proof that they have successfully completed an Anatomy and Physiology course.
-
Applicants must hold a current Emergency Medical
Technician license certified by the National Registry or one of the
Fifty (50) States at the commencement of the course and maintain said
license throughout the duration of the course.

Course Description:
This is an extremely fast
paced, one hundred and four (104) day course, designed specifically for
students who are able to make a full time commitment to training. This
course teaches advanced patient assessment techniques and life saving
invasive procedures in accordance with the National Registry, including
intubation, I.V./I.O. starts, advanced airway techniques and the latest
in pediatric care. The program requires students who already possess a
high level of medical experience, motivation and self-discipline. All
students attending this course must hold a current qualifying CPR card
and must carry a current EMT certificate (or higher). Extensive EMT-B
(or greater) experience is highly recommended.
The cost of the Accelerated Format
Paramedic Science Program includes all textbooks and an opportunity for
each student who successfully completes the program to sit for the
National Registry EMT Paramedic skills and written examinations.

Career Opportunities:
Associates Degree in Paramedic Science:
- Pelham Training has an
Articulation Agreement with Vincennes University, of Vincennes,
Indiana. Through this agreement, your medical training hours
through the Pelham Training Paramedic Science Program are
transferred and converted into credit hours that will apply towards
an Associate’s Degree in Paramedic Science through Vincennes
University. For more information on how you can get your Associates

Students who successfully
complete the Paramedic Science Program may choose to pursue a
further career in the field of medicine as a physician’s assistant,
nurse or physician.

International Remote Site and
Offshore paramedic jobs are available with national and
international Corporations that maintain business interests and
assets all over the world.

Paramedics are commonly
employed with independent ambulance services as well as those
services affiliated with hospitals and fire stations.

Most hospitals employ
paramedics to work in the emergency department as an integral part
of their trauma care team.
-
Some Specialized police
agencies hire paramedics to serve as members of SWAT and similar
tactical teams.

Paramedics can work on
pediatric and critical care specialty transport services.

Paramedics may be employed to work as flight medics on helicopters
and aircraft
