Wilderness Medical Training Wilderness Medical Training for the Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician Adapt and overcome! We have become so dependent on technology that we have lost many of the skills traditionally used to cope with medical emergencies in the wild. This vigorous, hand-on, two weekend course will teach the basic skills you need to keep your patient alive and reduce injury when your ambulance and all its equipment are out of reach. Wilderness Upgrade is a 40-hour course for those who are already certified as Emergency Medical Responder or EMTs. The course builds on the foundations of your EMS training and adds wilderness concepts and skills with many role-playing scenarios. A partial list of information presented includes: Wilderness vs. urban medicine Patient assessment in a wilderness setting Lifting and Moving Extrication and Extended Care Land Navigation Personal Preparedness LZ preparation Litter Packaging/Improvised Litter Wilderness Fracture Management Wilderness Wound Management Please be aware that this class has varying hours from day to day during the week of the course. Some class days incorporate evening and night scenarios. WILDERNESS Medical Training Emergency Medical Responder/Emergency Medical Technician RECERTIFICATION Spend sixteen hours learning the latest developments in wilderness medical care and build upon the foundation created in your WEMR or WEMT. This course focuses on realistic scenarios using real equipment, as well as our assessment-based approach to patient care. Recognized world-wide, the WEMR/WEMT Re-certification course is taught by experienced instructors. Additionally, all our re-certification courses include CPR for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, the recognized leader in cardiac care.
