Wilderness Medical Training Wilderness Upgrade for First Responder and EMT Adapt and overcome! We have become so dependent on technology that we have lost many of the skills traditionally used to cope with medical emergencies in the wild. This vigorous, hand-on, two weekend course will teach the basic skills you need to keep your patient alive and reduce injury when your ambulance and all its equipment are out of reach. Wilderness Upgrade is a 40-hour course for those who are already certified as First Responder or EMTs. The course builds on EMT training and adds wilderness concepts and skills with many role-playing scenarios. Some of the information presented includes: Wilderness vs. urban medicine Patient assessment in a wilderness setting Lifting and Moving Extrication and Extended Care Land Navigation Personal Preparedness LZ preparation Litter Packaging/Improvised Litter Wilderness Fracture Management Wilderness Wound Management Course Calendar Dates: March 29 - 30 & April 4 - 6 (Five total days) Course Cost:  $375.00 Please contact us for more information or email Debra@pelhamtraining.com. WILDERNESS FIRST AID (WFA) Wilderness First Aid is a two-day, 16 hour class designed for people who spend time in the backcountry such as trip leaders, camp counselors, and outdoor enthusiasts. This emergency response training includes patient assessment, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries, splinting, and a variety of other topics. Providing primary care in varied weather conditions with limited outdoor gear is the focus of this fast paced hands on course. The wilderness first aid course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine techniques while managing long term care in an emergency response. Lecture and discussion, practical exercise and outdoor scenarios help students gain confidence, and encourage the development of essential decision making and judgment skills. This course also serves as a wilderness first responder (WFR) recertification course. Upon successful completion of the course, student will earn a nationally recognized WFA certification from SOLO. WILDERNESS EMT/FIRST RESPONDER RECERTIFICATION Spend sixteen hours learning the latest developments in wilderness medical care and build upon the foundation created in your WFR or WEMT. This course focuses on realistic scenarios using real equipment, as well as our assessment-based approach to patient care. Recognized world-wide, the WFR/WEMT Re-certification course is taught by experienced instructors. Additionally, all our re-certification courses include CPR for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association, the recognized leader in cardiac care.
